Most warm days when I get home from work after going to the gym and my 1.2 mile walk in the sunshine from the train I am craving nutrition in the form of a smoothie. Some days fly by and I haven't had many of the supplements and super items I like to include in my diet.
This Super Smoothie I also like to call this the Kitchen Sink Smoothie, because I use A LOT of the pantry items. I made it yesterday after work and when Garrett came home he looked at what I was doing and said "I thought we cleaned the kitchen yesterday?" I was standing in the kitchen surrounded by jars, bags, powders, superfoods, and toppings... all the things!
Warning: this the full recipe of this smoothie is not for the beginner smoothie maker.
Just start with the bast ingredients. Use what you have, don't go buy all of the super items at once - you won't be happy with the bill. However I recommend you looking into these items and slowly stocking up your pantry. Many of the super items are highly nutrient dense and you only use a little at a time so they will last you weeks or even MONTHS!
You can easily make the base and then pick one or two super items to add to it. I put a lot into this because I have all of these things in my pantry. Adding them all to a smoothie helps me keep on track when I am feeling off, like during my moon cycle. During this time I know that my body needs more nutrition than normal.
Ingredients:
2 cups yellow frozen fruit - pineapple, mango, peaches
2 each frozen bananas
1 Tbsp organic raw honey
1/2 cup organic yogurt or coconut yogurt
1 Tbsp organic turmeric powder
1 inch ginger root
1/2 each lemon juice from half an organic lemon
2 handfuls ice cubes
1/4 cup water
Super Items:
1 Tbsp chia seeds - Nutiva
1 Tbsp organic virgin coconut oil - Nutiva
1/2 tsp probiotic powder - Moon Juice
1 scoop green superfood - AmazingGrass
1 tsp ashwagandha - Moon Juice
1/2 tsp maca powder - Sunfood
3 packets marine collagen - Vida Glow
Directions:
Place all the ingredients into a Vitamix or high speed blender.
Blend together until smooth.
To get the thick consistency you can eat with a spoon start and stop the blender several times. If you want to drink it through a straw I recommend adding more water.
Top you smoothie with any toppings of your choosing. Such as: coconut flakes, almonds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, turmeric powder, honey, granola, fresh, frozen, or dried fruit.
I'd love to know what super items you have in your pantry.
